Post Title: Head Imam
Responsible to: Management Committee + Board of Trustee
Responsible for: The delivery of all Religious, Educational and Community Services at Portobello Pakistani Educational and Cultural Centre
Main contacts associated with principal duties: Management Committee, Board of Trustee, Local non-Islamic organisations, (such as Schools and Interfaith).
Working hours: 35 hours per weekflexible working
Salary: £21,000 PA (dependent upon experience)
Leave Entitlement: Up to 28 days per annum, including statutory holidays.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead daily prayers at the centre including at Eid times.
- Deliver the Khutbah and lead prayer for Jummah in English/Urdu.
- Lead the Tarawih Prayer during Ramadan. Oversee all activates and daily tasks during the month of Ramadan.
- Provide Quran and Hadith studies, Seerah and Fiqh lessons, and other Islamic topics to increase knowledge and provide for spiritual growth of community members.
- Conduct oneself in a dignified manner commensurate with the teachings of Islam.
- Provide support to the development of Islamic education needs at the centre.
- Provide support to the development of responses for the Muslim community in the immediate surrounding areas to the centre; Muslim and Non-Muslim in a manner that reflects positively on Islam and the Trust.
- To be proactive in creating links with other local organisations within the Lothians area.
- To produce and deliver Islamic and educational events that will stimulate discussion on a wide range of contemporary issues facing the community.
- To keep clear and accurate records of Madrassah services as required.
- Work with the Management Committee to recruit and sustain volunteers support for the centre. Where needed;
- Working with other Imams, have a role to recruit and train volunteers.
- Supervise volunteers and ensure adequate roles are established for all volunteers.
- Support the Management Committee in pursuit of fundraising campaigns.
- Provide consultation to the Management Committee and the volunteers on Religious matters, Education service, community issues and madrassa activities as requested.
- To adhere to our Trust’s policies and procedures.
- To undertake such other duties identified by the Management Committee which are commensurate with the post holders salary, aptitude and ability.
